Indian Queens Primary School

Welcome to the Minpins page. Here you can see some of our displays and find out what we have been doing recently. We are a nursery and are taught by Miss Tiplday and Mrs Rounsvell with Mrs Williams and Mrs Hazeldine.

This half term we have been learning about different animals from minibeasts to jungle animals and even dinosaurs. We have enjoyed leaning about the different habitats these animals live in and have made lots of fantastic art work around this.

We have been building dens in the Minpins garden and pretending to have camp fires and picnics in them with our friends. We have learnt camp songs and listened to stories in our new dens.

We have had a real focus on name writing before some of our children start school in September. We have been mark making using paper, pens, chalks, paint, sand, water, glitter and even foam as you can see in the picture.

Looking back at the Spring Term: This half of term, we have been learning about growing. We have grown our very own cress and been creating lots of lovely artwork on flowers and plants. For St Piran’s day, we made Cornish flags and sang lots of Cornish songs. The highlight was making delicious fruity pasites! Yum!

We have also really enjoyed painting rocks and pebbles and hiding them around our school gardens. We then challenge our friends to find them!

This half term we have been enjoying our topic ‘Let’s get Building’. We have been learning about builders, their job role and the tools they use. We loved finding out all about diggers and large machinery.

We have also been learning about the ‘Three Little Pigs’, building houses out of different materials and testing to see which makes the best house. We completed investigations with straw, sticks and bricks as well as lots of other materials such as jelly! We have learnt the story and enjoyed re telling it in our story corner with puppets and props.

Another highlight this half term has been having a police officer in to visit. He told us lots of information, showed us his police van and we even had a go at turning on the sirens!

Looking back at the Autumn Term: What a busy month. We’ve been learning all about light and dark and space. The children were fascinated to find out about planets and create pictures of other planets using chalk and paint.

We investigated shiny materials and explored the water tray with mirrors and shiny objects. We made a rocket with our wooden blocks and tyres and shot off into space!

Minpins have been learning all about light and dark which was timed very well with bonfire night! We created name rockets, firework flick paint pictures and used musical instruments to create firework sounds such as ‘whizz’, ‘pop’ and ‘bang’! We learnt all about Autumn and what happens at this lovely time of year.
